Perhaps the most asked question is what you should wear to college classes.
So what do you wear to class, what don’t you wear, what is “clothing” and what is not?
We have the answers to these questions and more for us college students who love fashion but still have to get out of bed and get to class on time.
The “Dressing Up For Class” Debate
If you haven’t heard this before, here’s the main argument:
Some people think that because you are in college and no one is telling you what to wear, you should take the opportunity to dress casually and not pay attention to what you wear.
They claim that baggy pyjamas are easier to put on and more comfortable than regular clothes. They’ll ask questions like, “Most college students are hungry every morning, so why change into pajamas to get to class?”
Apart from our observations, these people usually drag themselves to class, immediately fall asleep, snoring loudly, and eventually wake up. They usually do not know what is happening and think that “just showing up” is enough.
Here’s why their arguments are funny:
First, pajamas, which shouldn’t be worn publicly, aren’t easy to wear with clean jeans, a nice top, or even workout clothes and a cropped hoodie.
Secondly, if you are too eager to work, you do not belong in the classroom and should be at home.
Third, these people are insecure about their appearance and try to make those who work hard to look good feel bad about themselves.
What should you wear to Class?
We’re not saying that you should spend 5hrs getting ready every morning or that fashion should be more important than anything else. But we believe that beauty is important.
Here are why you should “dress up” for class, even if that means jeans, a shirt, cute sweatpants, and fancy shoes.
Showing respect to your professor
Showing up to class in your pajamas will not only make you look like you don’t care, but it will also be disrespectful to the professor. They dress well in class to show that they take their work seriously. When you dress like you’re ready for bed, it tells you that you care. This is disrespectful to Prof.
Making it easier to focus
We don’t know about you all, but we don’t feel very productive when we wear pajamas. Pajamas are suitable for sleeping, watching TV, and sleeping. If you dress a little better, you won’t be tempted to fall asleep or pass out during class. (We discussed how well this works in our blog on real college clothes.)
Looking good
Well, this is an apparent reason not to wear the clothes you slept in. Pajamas aren’t always the cutest. We love oversized sorority t-shirts and sweat shorts to wear around the dorm, to the gym, or even to finals if we study all night, but never on class day.
If you love fashion, you should wear nice clothes! Wear something unique and enjoy fashion. Why buy amazing clothes if you don’t wear them?
What to Wear to Class
Even if you only have a few minutes to get ready, it’s easy to wear something cute and comfortable to class. Below, we have created some very stylish and cosy choices.
Here are some examples of outfits to wear to class:
Comfy & Cozy Outfit
This dress is perfect if you want something perfect to wear to class and still look fabulous!
Joggers have become a trendy fashion item lately and are perfect for school because they are the most comfortable trousers you can wear and still look stylish. And let’s be honest: in 2024, it’s all about luxury.
Just pair some simple grey joggers with any colorful shirt or accessory you have on hand. This cute purple tank and velvet scrunchie are the perfect way to add colour to your look.
Girly Skirt Outfit
If you’re looking for a more girly outfit for class, this look is for you!
This dress pairs a pretty blue dress with a white crop top and matching tank top. The tennis skirt is trendy: We’re seeing a ’90s comeback all over campus, with a little nod to movies like Clueless.
However, unlike Cher in Clueless, we wear our classic Nike Air Force 1s rather than heels. These are our favourite fashion sneakers right now – they’re all over fashion Instagram accounts, but they’re also super comfortable and can be paired with absolutely everything.
Additionally, you can enhance the look by adding fun, modern and girly accessories such as butterfly necklaces and hair clips. I love these white ones that match the dress.
Pink Sporty Outfit
If you’re on campus all day or taking multiple classes, it may seem like you’re already exercising during all the walking.
So why not wear sportswear to class? Sportswear may not look the most fashionable in many cases, but you can add colour to your outfit to score extra fashion girl points.
This outfit pairs a cute pink tank with white leggings and a matching track jacket. It is also paired with a head scarf, a modern hair accessory. We ended the look with matching sneakers to keep your athleisure look stylish.

Most of the time, you only need a nice pair of jeans with a top, a sporty look, and some accessories. However, if you want to wear something more fun, we say go for it! We’re all for showing off your favourite clothes and fashion sense.
