Practical tips to make a dark lipstick look lighter

1. Apply Lip Balm First
- Start with a moisturising lip balm to create a barrier.
- This softens the pigment, so it goes on more sheer when you apply your dark lipstick.
2. Use a Nude or Light Lipstick on Top
- Apply your dark lipstick first.
- Then dab a nude, peach, or light pink lipstick over it and blend with a lip brush or finger.
3. Mix with Concealer or Foundation
- On the back of your hand, mix a small amount of your dark lipstick with a dab of concealer or foundation.
- Apply the blended shade for a toned-down version of your dark colour.
4. Dab with Tissue for a Sheer Stain
- Apply the dark lipstick, then blot gently with a tissue.
- Repeat until you get the lightness you want — this creates a softer, stained look.
5. Highlight the centre of the Lips
- After applying dark lipstick, put a bit of highlighter or light eyeshadow in the centre of your lips.
- Blend outward — this brightens and softens the whole look.
6. Add a Gloss
- A clear or light pink gloss will diffuse the dark pigment, making the shade appear softer and lighter.
